I have no idea what that means. You're going to have to give us more information.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 215091 ***
Comment 3 Thomas Zimmermann 2008-04-04 12:51:50 UTC
please do unmark this as duplicate, as far I can tell, it is not!!

I have the same problem here with my MacBookPro, 2008.0beta1
for AMD64. I think it is grub-related. Grub boots
up in stages, and hangs at the second it says "stage2". So you can't
even see the grub-menu nor give boot options!

Inside a virtual machine this boot-cd boots up nicely (inside
a 32bit machine it gives you the grub menu and than hangs
because the kernel is for 64 bit machines! I just did that to
make sure IT IS a 64bit kernel!)

So as far as I can tell, there is a booting-issue with grub on that
64-bit-minimal install cd with MacBooks. And it is not a duplicate
of another Bug I have seen around here!

Thanks for any help, you Guys ROCK!

I've the same problem with a macbook too, my configuration of macbook is a intel C2D 2.4 GHz (penryn) with graphic card intel X3100, etc.

Reopening now that we have enough information to determine that the problem isn't the same.
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-04 17:43:03 UTC
Do you have BootCamp installed?
Comment 7 Thomas Zimmermann 2008-04-04 17:46:41 UTC
I sure do, since I have windows installed, too!
Comment 8 Thomas Zimmermann 2008-04-04 17:53:45 UTC
Addition:

but as far as I understand, it is not necessary to have bootcamp installed at all,
since the BIOS-Emulation grub needs comes with a firmware-update and not
with bootcamp. Bootcamp just sets up a MBR-PartitionTable parallel to the
EFI-PartitionTable used by MacOSX. The only problem I see related to this
booting problem is the one with EFI emulating a bios, right? windows XP is
up and running, so I guess everything should be there, since 2007.0 booted
without problem, too!
Comment 9 ZeLegolas 2008-04-04 19:34:35 UTC
I used rEFIt for the Boot.

OK, we've updated both grub and the kernel for 2008.0 Beta 2. If you guys could test it when it comes out in the next few days, we'd really appreciate it.
Comment 11 Thomas Zimmermann 2008-04-12 22:39:16 UTC
I will test it :-) I am so eager to get gentoo on my mac... missed gentoo so much the past 1,5 years :-(

It's may be a stupid question but where we can download this version?

Comment 14 ZeLegolas 2008-04-13 19:10:24 UTC
Sorry, I just didn't read the full sentence :-P
I'm too impatient to test this beta 2!!! :-D
Comment 15 Thomas Zimmermann 2008-04-30 11:37:26 UTC
I just tried booting from the new Beta2.

Glad to report, that it boots up nicely on my MacBookPro and I have
my expected internet-enabled install-environment for gentoo.

So I guess, this one is closed? ;-)

Thank you, you guys are awesome!

Cool. We won't actually RESOLVED-FIXED this bug until we get 2008.0 final out, but I'm glad to hear that it's working for you.
Comment 17 ZeLegolas 2008-05-01 01:53:01 UTC
Cool the Beta 2 boot on my MacBook
But I don't have the network.

May be because the wireless component it's an Broadcom BCM4328
If you integrated ndiswrapper on the livecd should be fine.

Good job :)
Comment 18 Andrew Gaffney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-06 17:44:15 UTC
This should be fixed in 2008.0, which is now released.
