Description Harry Lippy 2008-04-02 00:14:49 UTC
I am unable to emerge this package - the relevant error seems to be

checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

I will attach all associated log files. Here's the odd thing - if I change to the source directory and run the same ./configure command that is called through emerge, the package configures properly and I can build and install it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge apache-tools
2.
3.

Actual Results:
The emerge fails in the configure step. Please see attached logs.

Expected Results:
Package should emerge successfully, especially since I can configure and build it by hand from the identical source code as that used by the emerge tool.

Try:
emerge -1 openssl
Comment 8 Harry Lippy 2008-04-04 02:11:04 UTC
Tried 'emerge -1 openssl'. The error still occurs and is identical to the previous errors posted above...if it helps I can post the new error logs, but they appear to me to be identical.

Does anybody find it strange that I can change to the

/var/tmp/portage/app-admin/apache-tools-2.2.8/work/httpd-2.2.8

directory and run the same configure command as that called by emerge, and I have no problems configuring, building, and installing apache-tools?
Comment 9 Harry Lippy 2008-04-04 02:13:23 UTC
It won't help the general community, which is why I haven't suggested it before, but to alleviate my problem - is there a file generated by the emerge tool somewhere where emerged software is listed? I could edit this file by hand and have the emerge tool believe that it, in fact, successfully emerged the software, which would be progress for me, at least. I am ultimately trying to emerge pymol, which is dependent on apache-tools.

Thanks for any further info. I would love to be able to help track the real issue with the portage, but I am anxious also to move on.

not sure, but it looks like a openssl problem to me ...
Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-04-19 20:33:18 UTC
libssl should be linked against libcrypto which should contain all the symbols in question

double check both of these on your system

please reopen if this is still an issue
