(In reply to comment #0) I think this is an issue w/ stock qemu 0.9.0 and gcc 3.4.6, I could be wrong though. Not even stock qemu 0.9.0 will build correctly on my system. Hmm, having trouble building an older gcc maybe it's a compiler issue... 8-(
I checked and it's definately a compiler issue. building on a hand-rolled GCC 3.4.6 built w/ cflags '-march=pentium2 -O2 -pipe' works, whereas one built w/ portage w/ the cflags '-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -g -ggdb' fails. The issue also affects mplayer-1.0_rc2_p25993 and qemu-0.8.2 (Yeah, I know it's no longer in portage). So somewhere between the P2 and Prescott specs it breaks *some* apps.
I am having this same problem, except this is =app-emulation/qemu-softmmu-0.9.1-r1
this is a gcc/architecture limitation issue. the compiler is running out of registers with all the optimization flags used and is therefore dependent on the type of optimization that is applied to the qemu ebuild. using -march=i486 should work for all cases
qemu-0.10 builds with gcc-4 now
