Description Marc Richter 2003-05-23 07:39:01 UTC
In the 'Gentoo Linux 1.4_rc4 Installation Instructions'
(http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml) you have placed the
following note:
"Note: You may receive a notice during env-update telling you that
/etc/make.profile/make.defaults isn't available: ignore it. We are going to
issue emerge sync later on in this document which will resolve the problem."
(Right above 'Code listing 8.3: Prepping and entering the chroot environment')

But this note is missing in the file '/install.txt' on the CD (when IN Chroot).
This made my install fail several times.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Read the /install.txt on the Live CD (When in chroot as described in that file)
Actual Results:
I missed a note.

Expected Results:
Tell that there'll be an error message, and that that's usual

The change in the installation guide is made after the release of 1.4_rc4. When a new release is made (1.4_rc5 or 1.4_final) the CD will contain the at that time latest document. We cannot upload a new ISO for every change made to the installation guide (http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo/xml/htdocs/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml?sortby=date shows the changes that are made).
