Maybe the bug isn't visible with portage ; I'm using paludis.
This missing info makes it want to reinstall baselayout again and again (which is perfectly understandable).

Adding PROVIDE="virtual/baselayout" in the ebuild seems to be the solution.

the virtual has no meaning anymore.  it should go away.
