Sourcing "defs" as the tests do, you get 

/bin/defs.in not found, check $srcdir

The protected environment has been shut down.

so that was it already. The tests hardcode /tmp and use the already installed texinfo version (which texi2dvi), instead the one to be installed, so there's a bit more to clean up.
