Some machines (old ones or partially damaged) do not have usb,cdrom and floppy. As a result the only option to install linux is to use apps like laodlin or grub4dos. Unfortunatelly since Gentoo's Live/Install CDs are not build with fat32/ntfs support compiled in kernel you have to use different distro or old release. OK, since this could only possibly be supported properly on amd64/x86, I've gone ahead and made these built-in rather than modules.
This should be fixed in 2008.0, which is now released.
