After the update from 2.0.0.12 to 2.0.0.13 firefox will not start anymore. CPU on my T60p goes to 50% (1 core 100%) and stays that way. Aborted after 5 minutes. Tried to remove .mozilla directory; it did not help. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update to 2.0.0.13 2. End 2.0.0.12 instance 3. Start 2.0.0.13 Actual Results: No window appears. Process "firefox-bin" existing and comsuming 100% CPU. Expected Results: Firefox starts normal as 2.0.0.12 does. Do you have alsa-oss emerged by chance? Did you emerge 2.0.0.12 again?
Have generated bin packages using quickpkg of both 2.0.0.12 and 2.0.0.13 to be able to test if something comes up. alsa-oss was not merged when I updated to 2.0.0.13. Reemerged alsa-oss (1.0.15) and upgraded (binary -k) to 2.0.0.13; Same behaviour. Downgraded to 2.0.0.12 (binary -k) once more. Killed 2.0.0.13 instance still running (killall firefox-bin) Firefox works again. alsa-oss unmerged once more. Firefox 2.0.0.12 still works.
Try reemering firefox-2.0.0.12 and if it works, try reemering firefox-2.0.0.13, and try with mozilla-firefox-bin as well
Reemerge of 2.0.0.12 does work with or without alsa-oss (allready tested). I don't see what having alsa-oss merged when updating to 2.0.0.13 should make a difference but am trying @ momment. Tried to merge 2.0.0.13-bin offical (not selfmade -k). It works without hitch as expected. So there has to be some difference inside the ebuild or sourcecode from 2.0.0.12 to 2.0.0.13.
The alsa-oss stuff should only matter at runtime, if you don't have it emerged, then don't worry. It will probably affect firefox3 only. So...you reemerge firefox-2.0.0.12 and it still works? And i mean reemerging, recompiling, not emerging a binary. Try to wipe your ccache cache when compiling 2.0.0.13
Disabled ccache in make.conf alltogether. Removed /var/tmp entries and reemerged. Still same result. Firefox does not show anything and CPU load goes to 100%. Hello, I have exactly the same problem. Downgrade to 2.0.0.12 works fine. (entry in /etc/portage/package.mask: =www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.13 ) I tried rebuild all dependencies, without any success ( equery depends mozilla-firefox | sed 's/^/=/' | xargs emerge -v ) First package to rebuild was epiphany and this rebuild stalled at the execution of configtest at the point: " Checking whether we can execute XPCOM...". For now I did upgrade to version 2.0.0.12, because I have no idea what I can do more. Thanks in advance.

Well, you guys are using gcc-4.2...could be that, can you test with gcc-4.1?
(In reply to comment #10) > Well, you guys are using gcc-4.2...could be that, can you test with gcc-4.1? > Could be, but that would mean, rebuild the hole system, is a really big cudgel and I'm not convinced that after that firefox-2.0.0.13 runs fine. Because I use gcc 4.2.2 since a couple of month and firefox always compiled without any errors and runs fine.
Well, it works for me with gcc-4.1...and you guys only have problems with 4.2, so... I'd say just try to rebuild firefox with gcc-4.1. I'll try to build it with gcc-4.2
Can you guys try to run /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox ?

Had to change CFLAGS string from CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" to CFLAGS="-march=pentium-m -Os -msse3 -pipe" for gcc 4.1.2 Upgrade to 2.0.0.13 works fine and firefox starts without a hitch. IMHO gcc 4.2.x is around for a long time so this bug should not be closed without somebody else take a look at what exactly is going wrong here.
Hello, after downgrade to gcc 4.1.2, firefox 2.0.0.13 runs fine, no errors. Thanks.

(In reply to comment #17) Hello, obviously only a downgrade to stable gcc (4.1.2) helps.
Yes, of course I was referring to suggestions not involving a downgrade of gcc.
I've been unable to reproduce this, just with firefox-2.0.0.13 compiled with gcc-4.2.3, nothing else compiled with it...
I was able to reproduce this on a intel core2 with the CFLAGS set to "-march=native -O2 -pipe" on gcc-4.2.2, while setting CFLAGS="-march=nocona -O2 -pipe" produces a fine working binary of firefox.
I can confirm getting a working firefox using gcc-4.2.3 NOT using "-march native" CFLAG but "-march pentium-m". (Have a core duo.
