The ebuild for media-video/vlc-0.8.6e-r1 has an RDEPEND on <media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070616-r1 As far as I can tell, it functions properly with <=media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070616-r2 This would not be much of an issue except that media-video/ffmpeg2theora-0.20 has an RDEPEND for >=media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070616-r1 This ends up with a system that cannot have ffmpeg2theora-0.20 (the lastest available in portage ~x86 masked) and a vlc version less than 0.9 installed on the same machine. To resolve the situation locally, I changed the vlc ebuild for a local overlay to allow a slightly newer version of ffmpeg Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Unmask ffmpeg2theora and its dependencies (including ffmpeg) 2. Install ffmpeg2theora and its dependencies 3. Install vlc 4. emerge world Actual Results: # emerge -avDN world These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating world dependencies - !!!
