Would have downgraded some packages, e. g. gnutls, after doing --sync and re-merging  orld ...

Addition: I had CVS version 1.1 of gnutls-2.2.2.ebuild after syncing with the out-of-date mirror (1.6 is current).

Might help to track the issue down.

Any progress on this?

Searching for belnet on bugzilla reveals that this particular
mirror is already known for being rather unstable (frequently out of sync).

Shouldn't it be better removed from the list of mirrors then?

Removed now.
