Description phonicuk 2008-03-26 16:40:19 UTC
Followed the guide on compiz-fusion (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_compiz-fusion) and found that when it comes to compiz-start, I don't get anywhere as a normal user. The output is...

user@liquidtux ~/.config/compiz $ compiz-start
NVIDA detected
Using GTK decorator

But I get no window decorator, and have to ctrl+c and run metacity to get my WM back.

If I run compiz-start as root however, it works without any problems. My user is in the group 'video'.

Linux liquidtux 2.6.24-gentoo-r3 #3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Mar 26 11:27:11 GMT 2008 x86_64 AMD Processor model unknown AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

compiz-fusion-0.6.0
xorg-x11-7.3

Running as ~AMD64

I found someone else with an identical problem at http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?p=52054 but their problem has not been resolved.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start compiz-start as normal user
2.Doesn't start, run metacity to get WM back
3.Start compiz-start as root
4.It works

I have the same exact problem. New setup of Gentoo 2008.0.

Dell Inspiron E1705
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 7900GS

I followed the same HOWTO to get in the same situation.

This seems invalid to me. Try compiz-manager or fusion-icon and check your permissions and group membership.
