I think that gimp should use the default browser chosen by user instead of
firefox. I already sent this to upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522483

And has been already fixed in 2.6 branch

I attach a patch and an ebuild diff for fixing this
