Compiling the attached ebuild works just fine on my machine. I need to compile against xulrunner since I am using Firefox 3; vlc can't be compiled against it's libxul. I don't want to use vlc-0.9 alpha so I modified the 0.8.6e-r1 ebuild.

Please attach a unified diff and not a huge ebuild; completely impossible to review the changes.

well... we had bug #161340
I prefer not merging new features into the stable version as they wouldnt have been well tested but I can understand this will cause problems with ff3; for now I'll just wait for ff3 to hit the tree and then advise, or just apply your patch in a revision/version bump of the 0.8.6 branch.
