Description Stuart Luppescu 2003-05-21 18:42:20 UTC
I appreciate the work all the developers and maintainers do on Gentoo, but
updates on ebuilds for dev-lang/R seem to be often very delayed. I just built a
system with Gentoo, and installed R 1.6.2 (the latest for which an ebuild is
available), but I can't install many of the packages because they require 1.7.0,
which came out Apr 16.

I like to keep my R installation current. Should I try and put together an
ebuild for 1.7.0?

Naive version bump compiles. I know absolutely nothing about R,
so somebody should reopen this bug if we're missing some sort
of major functionality.

Well, my portage skills are rudimentary, but I use R a lot, so if you like I can take over maintainance of this package.

Irritatingly, we don't yet have a reasonable method for users to maintain
ebuilds. That said, if you don't mind, I would very much appreciate your
assistance.

I built the package and it seems ok as far as I've used it. I assume that when you built yours you did
make check

This tests nearly everything. I tried it here and got no reports of errors, so everything looks fine! Thanks very much.
