I've set up a server at 66.11.11.4. This is a Dell PE1550, 1 ghz PIII w/512 megs of RAM. Running Gentoo (of course), this server is barely utilized as it is a back up name server. It's sitting on a partial t3, running at 5 meg. I've been syncing with random rsyncs at :00 and :30 since last Friday night, and it seems to be working well. I'm not a progammer by trade, so hopefully this can be a way we can help out the Gentoo project. Initially I am going to set the max users to 10, we'll see how it changes our bandwidth usage and boost it higher later if I can. I forgot to mention the location - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.
The last rsync was "Tue, 03 Jun 2003 03:00:00 +0000" and should have been 03:30. Can you check for errors and confirm that ntp is running? Thanks.
NTP is running and the time and date are correct on the server... The only errors I have gotten are the "Max Connections Reached" errors (~twice daily). The only times it errored that way around the time you looked was 05:00, the one at 03:30 appeared to be successful (took 20 seconds). Can it be checked again? Thanks joe
I've added 66.11.11.4 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine and then add it to the rotation. Thanks.
The server is now syncing with rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Thanks joe
66.11.11.4 is now rsync17.gentoo.org. As soon as DNS catches up, you should start seeing some traffic. I've subscribed <jsleeper@ecpi.edu> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
That is, rsync17.us.gentoo.org.
