Happened for me too. Fixed it by adding #include <stdlib.h> in settings.c

here's in suxpanel-0.4b-r1.ebuild I got the same segfaults error on suxpanel start up when i hack the ebuild and src_unpack() { unpack ${A} cd "${S}" - epatch "${FILESDIR}"/${P}-Makefile.in.patch epatch "${FILESDIR}"/${P}-stdlib.patch and remerge it all things ok
