Description sebastianhirsch 2003-05-21 11:43:55 UTC
I did an "emerge -S aac" right after an "emerge sync" at 17:21 Central European
Time. I got the following output:

*  media-libs/faac
      Latest version available: 26102001-r1
      Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
      Size of downloaded files: 550 kB
      Homepage:    http://faac.sourceforge.net/
      Description: Free MPEG-4 audio codecs by AudioCoding.com

*  media-libs/faad2-1.1 [ Masked ]
!!! There has been an error. Please report this via IRC or bugs.gentoo.org
!!! mycpv:   media-libs/faad2-1.1-1.1
!!! mysplit: ['media-libs', 'faad2-1.1-1.1']
!!! psplit:  None
!!! error:   unsubscriptable object

      Latest version available: 1.1

      Description: FAAD2 is the fastest ISO AAC audio decoder available. FAAD2
correctly decodes all MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 MAIN, LOW, LTP, LD and ER object type
AAC files.

I suspect that this is due to a false entry in the portage tree, since there is
no "media-libs/faad2-1.1-1.1", only "media-libs/faad2-1.1", but my knowledge
about portage is very limited.

The error ist reproducible, repeating "emerge sync" did not help.

I just found out that this is obviously not a specific faad2 problem. Doing an "emerge -S encoder" produced the same message on quite a couple of packages, such as net-news/yencode-0.46, media-video/recmpeg-1.0.5, media-video/mpeg2-movie-1.5-r1, media-sound/bladeenc-0.94.2-r1...

I am using portage 2.0.48, which I emerged this morning and re-emerged some minutes ago, which did not help at all. With the former version of portage I never experienced a problem like this.

This is debug I added to solve a problem people were experiencing...
This is actually quite useful.
Comment 3 Alex Buell 2003-05-26 20:00:16 UTC
faad2 is also masked out for both x86 and ppc. Why?
Comment 4 Jairo O. Pineros 2005-03-28 18:36:30 UTC
Hello, I am also not able to compile faad2. I am running the latest kernel, with the latest patches.

!!! ERROR: media-libs/faad2-2.0-r5 failed.
