Description G. Gibson 2008-03-22 13:57:45 UTC
I cannot get XGL built with GLX for love or money. It simply won't build and I've tried -- a lot. xeffects is dead, the old tarball does not work. the cvs pull does not work with *any* Mesa source code base out there, and needs to be re-jiggered. So, I was thinking since most of XGL has been dove-tailed into AiGLX, why not request a feature that does the following:

1. Uses simplified GLX (GLU, etc) calls to approximate a real compositing ability of the newer video cards. Performance is not the priority obviously, but rather compatibility.

2. Report this ability to the GLX layer for compiz, etc. to use.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. attempt to build XGL
2. pull some hair out
3. attempt to build XGL ...

Actual Results:
bald head and missing significant stomach lining.

Expected Results:
compositing for my spiffy old nVidia or other dri capable legacy card

This would be about the xorg-server probably. Specifically, this is a feature request intended for the up-channel party contributing AiGLX code to the xorg-server project, possibly also the mesa project. If you know who that is then groovy. If they have any questions please feel free to forward them my email info for contact. :)

Well, if you want stuff added to xorg-server code, you need to file your bugs @ http://bugs.freedesktop.org and not distribution bugzillas.
