Description qeldroma 2008-03-19 15:44:09 UTC
I recently upgraded gentoo-sources first to 2.6.24 and now to 2.6.24-rc3.
In both cases, i took my running(and working) 2.6.23-config and rerun the compile.

If i now plug in a usb-storage, i get an dmesg error telling me, that no "nls_utf8" is availlable, but that's not true!

The system is a nls utf-8 builtin system with cp437 and iso8859-1 and -15 built as modules.

If i compile nls_utf8 explicitely as module and load it before plugging in the storage, i get the same error-message, although the nls_utf8 module is definetly loaded!

Please see my forum post for details and output of dmesg and lsmod.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. plug in usb-device
2. look at dmesg

Actual Results:
usb-storage not working

Expected Results:
usb-storage working ;)

I am not at home in the moment, i will add additional info if you want, just ask ;)

Attach your kernel .config here; same for your /etc/fstab and any other relevant info. Please don't refer to forums.g.o. for this.

Plus this should be CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET="utf8"
