there is now alpha support for mounting ext2 partitions in mac os x. if this works under mac-on-linux, we should suggest it to users. info at <http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx/>.
mol does not access the hard disk over the OS X controller. It is more like a simulation and mol accepts only HFS, HFS+ and UFS filesystems on startup. Maybe with a walk into the sources this could be changed...
shouldnt this work if you feed an entire partition to MOL, and install ext2fsx? I thought you could configure MOL to use, say, /dev/hda4 (an hfs part.) as a disk, couldn't you also have it use /dev/hda5 (un-mounted ext2) if you had this software package installed?
What if we provided instructions for reading ext2/ext3 from OSX in the PPC FAQ? Something like: Can I access my ext2/ext3 partitions from OSX? OSX can support the reading and writing of ext2/ext3 partitions by using the kernel extension provided here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx This would cover both native OSX and running under MOL by giving interested parties enough information to figure out how to do it on their own.
Okay, I've added that to the FAQ. I think we can close this now.
