hi- I just emerged transcode and planned on emerging dvd::rip. However, I noticed that dvd::rip was going to emerge gnome-libs. Now, I've run transcode/dvd::rip on another system without _any_ gnome or kde stuff (I use enlightenment) but _with_ GDK-Pixbuf installed. So, I did a `emerge inject gnome-base/gnome-libs-1.4.2` and continued emerging transcode and dvd::rip. Sure enough, everything in dvd::rip (that I need) worked just fine without gnome-libs installed. This prolly doesn't bother most people, but I like to keep a lean system. Btw, I've got '-gnome' in my USE variable. I dunno why GDK-Pixbuf would require gnome-libs, although I do see how that could be (wrongly?) assumed. I am just a lowly user, so I could be missing something obvious. -dannyd
from gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0.ebuildgdk-pixbuf-0.22.0.ebuild: >=gnome-base/gnome-libs-1.4.1.2-r1" # We need gnome-libs here, else gnome support do not get compiled into # gdk-pixbuf (the GnomeCanvasPixbuf library )
I argued the same thing a year ago -- it turns out that those who want lean systems will have to just do what you did :/
