When trying to install Gentoo Linux on my 12" Powerbook G4 (aluminum new-ish model) I was unable to find a suitable network driver on the live-CD. Research indicates that I might need the gmac or sungem modules. Neither are on the 1.4_rc6 PPC allstages ISO. I was also unable to see any IDE device asidef rom /dev/hda which what the CD-RW from which I booted. cat /proc/cpuinfo transcribed by hand: cpu : 7455, altivec supported clock: 533 MHz revision: 3.3 (pvr 8001 0303) bogomips: 519.37 machine: PowerBook6,1 motherboard: PowerBook6,1 MacRISC3 Power Machintosh detected as: 95 (Unknown Keylargo-based) mac flags: 00000000 L2 cache: 256K unified memory: 640 MB mac-generation: NewWorld Snip from cat /proc/pci for network controller: Bus 16, device 18 function 0: Network controller: PCI device 14e4:4320 (Broadcom Corporation) (rev 2). Changed priority to match defn's. Changed title to make it easier to find.
rc7 image (note that these are in a different directory on the mirrors) fix these problems. I'll have regular (non-X-enabled) livecd up asap. oldworld/prep livecds comming up. I'll let you know if any new releases are ready to be tested.
I have tested the rc7 images and the official 1.4 release; the problems I originally reported are fixed. Thanks!
