Not sure how appropriate that is for libtool as opposed to other pkgs, but haven't noticed it before.

libtool is the one package which does it right and always has :p

i'm not going to go back and try to fix it since it's been working for us forever.  only newer versions will see changes (and since libtool-2.2 doesnt call autotools, there's nothing to do).
