Description Albert Zeyer 2008-03-06 15:05:28 UTC
It first occurs after visiting a site with a lot of Java applets.

I am using dev-java/sun-jdk-1.6.0.03. Java applets were always a bit unstable here, for example Firefox always has freezed if one Applet could not be loaded (but that is another bug).

It also crashes if I say it that it should not recover the old tabs from last time. Though it ask this everytime.

Comment 5 Albert Zeyer 2008-03-07 08:16:07 UTC
It's a problem with one of my extensions.

It's probably the extension CacheIt:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1700

I have moved my ~/.mozilla/firefox/$profile/extensions* and then Firefox starts. I moved the extensions back and excluded the CacheIt extension and Firefox also starts. After including the CacheIt extension again, I got the same crash. After Firefox once crashes, excluding of CacheIt also doesn't work anymore (probably because of the extension cache). I first have to move all extensions* away, start Firefox, close it and then move my old extensions (with excluded CacheIt) back.

But even if the extension is buggy, Firefox should not crash, so it's also a bug in Firefox (but probably an upstream bug, I will post the bug also there).

extensions.tar.bz2:
http://www.datenschleuder.eu/get_b60d809b90c527b625f08ba91f562b99.html

Extract these files to ~/.mozilla/firefox/$profile/. (Backup your extensions* there if you want to keep them.)

CacheIt is the extension {98449521-9320-4257-aa35-9e1a39c8cbe0}. In the archive, I have renamed this directory (under the subdir extensions).

If you start it directly after extracting, it should work. Then quit Firefox and rename the {98449521-9320-4257-aa35-9e1a39c8cbe0}.alt back to its original name. If you start Firefox now, it should crash.
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-03-07 08:36:18 UTC
You need to contact the extension author about this, we cannot fix and do not support third-party extentions. If you think that FF should handle broken extensions better, that goes to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org

Thanks.
Comment 8 Albert Zeyer 2008-03-07 09:01:47 UTC
Right, it's an upstream bug, filled it here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421462

Though just want to comment, there is still another problem. I just figured out that my Adblock extension didn't worked correctly anymore (it says it was at the state 'Pending' and asked if I have perhaps some readonly files in my profile).

I thought I try to disable Adblock and enable it again next start. After disabling and quitting, now Firefox crashes again (same backtrace). I have removed CacheIt already completly.

For further details, look at the upstream bug.
