Can you reproduce this again at *exactly* the same place?
It always fails the same test at the same place. Only the number before "Segmentation fault" differs from run to run. For example: ---- + Initializing theora_info struct ... ---- + Initializing theora_state for encoding ... ---- + Clearing theora_state ... /bin/sh: line 4: 22023 Segmentation fault ${dir}$tst FAIL: granulepos When cd'ing to /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/libtheora-1.0_beta2-r1/work/libtheora-1.0beta2/tests/ and running ./granulepos manually, it does not segfault, though: ---- + Initializing theora_info struct ... ---- + Initializing theora_state for encoding ... ---- + Clearing theora_state ... ---- + Setting up dummy 4:2:0 frame data ... ---- + Checking granulepos generation ... theora_encode_YUVin() returned -11 granulepos.c:104: negative error code submitting frame for compression
Can't reproduce this on ~amd64, but since you are running test suites, I assume you are an advanced user and can provide us a backtrace [1] [1] http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml

Having just run into this myself, I found that some tests rely on USE=encode, and won't (can't) work when that flag is disabled. They should probably just be skipped. There's no problem when encoding fails when encoding is disabled.
fixed in _beta3-r1
