Description David D. Huff Jr. 2008-03-02 19:45:26 UTC
There isn't a MOSIX ebuild

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. ebuild mosix
2.
3.

Actual Results:
 nothing happens

Expected Results:
download and install a mosix patched kernel

There should be a MOSIX ebuild to make Gentoo an enterprise class distro.

The little failed experiment with OpenMosix is finally (officially) dead. I have documented the reasons why there should only be one true MOSIX and that the license is not an issue.
I site this as the original plea for sanity:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-332831-highlight-mosix.html
This as the official reason:

The answer is and has always been:

http://www.mosix.org/

Thanks!

Okay, is there in fact still interest in adding MOSIX to Portage? Upstream seems to be alive and kicking, moreover since 4.0.0 it is no longer necessary to patch the kernel. That says, it IS proprietary, binary-only software.

With no response in over 3 months, looks like there isn't any interest after all. Closing the bug.
