I've also tried with another xorg.conf that works in debian etch but the results are the same.

1/ Your x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse is clearly broken, you need to re-emerge it.
2/ You cannot configure input devices in xorg.conf with 1.4.0.90 and hal enabled, search bugzilla for hints on proper way of handling this.

I don't understand
Must I re-configure xorg.conf?

Ok, thanks. Now the error is only No devices detected, but xorg doesn't start

So try a different drivers version.

I've tried with driver ati (xorg-implemented) but:
(EE) module ABI major version (1) doesn't match the server's version (2)
(EE) Failed to load module "ati" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Once again, you need to re-emerge *all* drivers after upgrading xorg-server, as told to by the instructions.

emerge portage-utils; qlist -I -C x11-drivers/

Any updates on this? Do you still have issues with newer versions of xorg-server and xf86-video-ati (or fglrx)?

Please don't hesitate to reopen this bug if you still have any issues.

Thanks

Different bug, and you're using the binary ATI drivers. Please open a new bug.

Thanks
