Description wiono 2003-05-15 05:14:59 UTC
in /etc/make.conf CHOST is set to "i586-pc-linux-gnu". I've tried several
CFLAGS with -march=i586,k6,k6-2 -mcpu=k6-2 -Os -pipe
and it always stops after configuring "gas" in binutils with error: "sed
couldn't write XX items to stdout: broken pipe". What that means? a wrong
CFLAGS?, version of binutils?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.extract stage1
2."emerge sync", edit /etc/make.conf and set CONFIG_PROTECT="-*"
3.cd /usr/portage and scripts/bootstrap.sh

Expected Results:
I would like to pass bootstrap with the most optimized CFLAGS

My Hardware is:
Mainboard Biostar M5ALC based on ALI chipsets
AMD K6-2 500 MHz (no problems with overheating)
512 MB SDRAM (I've tested it with memtest a whole night. No errors occured)
harddrive Maxtor 90422D2 4,2GB. I've made 1024M swap space 32M boot and the
rest / partition. Before partitioning there was working windows 98.

Now I can pass bootstrap :} I've downclocked processor to 450MHz.

Now I can pass bootstrap :} I've downclocked processor to 450MHz (Acctually it was AMD K6-2 550 MHz plugged into mainboard which could work with max CPU speed 500MHz) .

OK, so it sounds like your CPU was getting a little toasty or is a little out of spec. I'm going to close this bug.
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:24:58 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
