The fastest japanese mirror of ibiblio ftp://ftp.ne.jp/00/Linux/ibiblio.org/distributions/gentoo/ doesn't seem to have gentoo in /distributions anymore. I guess I'd have to step in and help out: My mirror is at: rsync://gg3.net/gentoo ftp://gg3.net/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.gg3.net/ and you may add it to the list of official ones if you decide it performs fine. Since ibiblio.org is currently missing the gentoo distribution (I wonder if it is related to the problems with ftp.ne.jp) I couldn't rsync with them, and I had to obtain the files from the other Japanese mirror, as well as the German, Belgian and Finnish ones that provided rsync service. I hope that is OK (the instructions said to make an initial rsync with ibiblio).
Ooops, forgot to mention that the location is: Japan, Sapporo DNS names that end in gentoo.org (particularly rsync1.jp.gentoo.org or rsync.jp.gentoo.org) should work just as fine with this mirror for the http service (in case some time in the future source mirrors get names like source1.jp.gentoo.org, etc).
HTTP interface is giving me a "forbidden" error message. The FTP interface works fine. I've added the FTP link to our mirrors page and will do the same with the HTTP interface once the problem is resolved.
Problem solved.
I'll add the ftp interface today. I'm also going to send you instructions on accessing our private distfiles mirror, which will ensure you can always access the latest files.
