Hello! Here is ebuild for xxkb - eXtended XKB, which will allow international users displays current keyboard layout on each window. It remember layout, so you will not lost it, when switching between them. The only problem with this ebuild, is tha tI don't know how to force it to use CFLAGS from make.conf. Best regards, Andrew Kirilenko.
Created attachment 11951 [details] ebuild for xxkb-1.10
Looks like it only supports russian and english layout. Documentation is only in russian. I do not see much improvement compared with the solutions provided by X or kxkb or gkb...
You make take a look at http://wisephp.sourceforge.net/gentoo2.png - xxkb at work. kxkb and gkb are great, but if somebody uses simple wm, such as fluxbox, and don't want to merge a lot of junk from KDE or GNOME? Also, it can support any languages, you want (just add new xpms for your language and you are done). Man page for it is in english (only READMEs are in russian).
Thanks for the hint - already tried it yesterday, just didn't see the manpage. How to add new languages is not too evident (at least for me). Well, perhaps this is actually useful :-)
patrick, feel free to take this bug and add the package, if you like.
Well... I'm at work for nearly two hours now without getting anything done except reading news and mail and I really should start working now. Somehow I feel this is the right moment for accepting this bug :-)
Adding new languages is trivial ;) Here is my .xxkbrc (I just corrected standard icons from 15x15 to 15x13). You can simply specify icons according languages, set for xkb. ---> XXkb.xpm.path: /home/iced/.xxkb XXkb.mainwindow.enable: no XXkb.mainwindow.xpm.1: XXkb.mainwindow.xpm.2: XXkb.mainwindow.xpm.3: XXkb.mainwindow.xpm.4: XXkb.button.enable: yes XXkb.button.geometry: 15x13+2+1 XXkb.button.gravity: NorthWest XXkb.button.xpm.1: en.xpm XXkb.button.xpm.2: ru.xpm XXkb.button.xpm.3: XXkb.button.xpm.4: XXkb.app_list.wm_name.ignore: gkrellm <---
Adding a little english README that points to the XFree documentation on how to set up multiple keyboard layouts. Added german and polish xpms :-) Maybe I end up using this program just a day after assuming it is not necessary... Put into portage as ~x86.
Patrick, you will love it and will stop using kxkb &| kgb :)
