I followed KDE 4 has a few issues still, but most of them I'm willing to live with and see if I can fix them through settings over time. However two things have got to go until the work I already know is happening is finished. The default menu and default task bar are woefully inadequate, waste desktop space and user time. I found this, which tells me what I need to do to fix them, only I can't even find a package that is masked. http://dot.kde.org/1200812119/1200930643/ The menu I really want is in plasma-extragear but we don't have it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4.xml (and the thing on xcomposite, but that was already done.) Actual Results: KDE 4.0, mostly working, nagging killjoy of a taskbar and menu. Expected Results: Taskbar that can at least resize/autohide (what I consider absolute basic features). Menu that doesn't take 4 clicks/clutch-shift moves to launch an application. Normal: it should be fixed, it would be Minor if there were a package to just add to the guide's unmask list.
(In reply to comment #0) > Taskbar that can at least resize/autohide (what I consider absolute basic > features). There is a reason, that KDE 4.0 is masked by package.mask! And there is a reason, that the mask message (which you should have read!) states, that it will _not_ be unmasked. Missing features are part of it. If you want those features, wait for KDE 4.1, which is targeted for release during this summer. > Menu that doesn't take 4 clicks/clutch-shift moves to launch an application. Use the classic menu, it _is_ part of kde-base/plasma (split ebuilds), don't believe everything that you read in some comment on some page. There is no need to install extragear-plasma to get the classic menu. > Normal: it should be fixed, it would be Minor if there were a package to just > add to the guide's unmask list. Again, there is a reason why this KDE release is masked.
These are upstream problems and we can't do much about them.
Ok, the source wasn't accurate, but where -do- I find the classic menu? What is it called?
(In reply to comment #3) > Ok, the source wasn't accurate, but where -do- I find the classic menu? What > is it called? > It's a plasma applet. You should have it installed. I believe(I haven't use kde 4.0 in a little bit) you simply look in the available applets and there will be an alternate menu with the word 'classic' in it somewhere.
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154480 So according to here, I did already have it, it's just -very- poorly named as I added. I'll be committing a bug upstream regarding that, so the 'Resolved Upstream' (more properly, Reported Upstream) will be true.
