theres a broken link  in /var/empty that prevents sshd from starting up on the
live cd ( easy  fix add the linked to directory on the image) 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot the livecd
2.start sshd
3.


Actual Results:  
sshd doesnt start

Expected Results:  
sshd should start 

This is on Gentoo PPC all stages 1.4rc6 image I haven't tested any other images. 

the x86 images have always worked for me.

works on rc7 - this was a known problem on rc6
