Description Jon Covington 2008-02-06 23:51:26 UTC
Layman fails to fetch or process an overlay list type mercurial from http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml
Layman fails to parse or cache the list.
I am not using a proxy. I have verified that I can wget http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml without using a proxy. The list.xml appears to be correct in its format.
I have verified that fetching the overlay list from http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/layman-global.txt works correctly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.layman -o http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml -f
2.layman -o http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml -L
3.

Actual Results:
* Failed to update the overlay list from: http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml
* Error was:
* Failed to parse the overlays list fetched from http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml

* Failed to read a cached version of the overlay list from http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml. You probably did not download the file before. The corresponding entry in your layman.cfg file will be disregarded.

Expected Results:
Layman should have cached the list and allowed me to list using -L

Comment 1 Jouni Kosonen 2008-02-07 06:08:30 UTC
That list.xml is not XML, it is HTML Transitional - could this be a problem?
Namely, the xml header is missing, the DOCTYPE is in the wrong format and the icon link element is not closed.
Comment 2 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-07 06:16:42 UTC
Corrupt XML -> won't work.
Comment 3 Jouni Kosonen 2008-02-07 06:25:45 UTC
In fact, that URL points to a page that describes the changes to list.xml in changeset 3fcd2bbc4bf7 ; if you want to use that as the descriptor you might want to try URL http://hg.plopbyte.net/gentoo-packages/raw-file/3fcd2bbc4bf7/list.xml
