# Marcus D. Hanwell <cryos@gentoo.org> (03 Nov 2006) # 5.5.6 does not work with all projects, please use 5.4 or >=5.8 =sci-misc/boinc-5.5.6 Been masked for long enough, how about killing this and other redundant versions from the tree?
Can't clean it all up as for example... Setiathome depends on an old version of boinc. There's something else that depends on an older version as well. I went to do it..and found the problems after I had done it =/ ~sci-misc/boinc-4.72.20050813
I am not certain what we would be best off doing with boinc. The setiathome stuff has been very problematic and I have lost touch with the current development of boinc. Upstream setiathome certainly don't seem to make it easy. Should it just be masked and removed? Is there anyone with the knowledge/time to maintain and get it working on different arches? I don't really have the time to deal with this package right now - it has always been very time consuming and I don't even use it anymore. I would certainly welcome input and/or help.
The sci-astronomy/setiathome ebuild in portage seems to be ancient. The setiathome page with its applications (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php) shows versions >=5.12 for setiathome enhanced and 4.35 for astropulse. This is newer than the 2005 ebuild 4.18-r1. I suggest to mask and remove sci-astronomy/setiathome from portage and let sci-misc/boinc and the setiathome project handle it via boinc. Older versions of sci-misc/boinc should then also be purged (at least the ones that are broken).
