After installing the gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r5, i get 2 freezes. This is happening
on a Athlon XP. On my other machine, Pentium 3, it`s still stable.

The first freeze was while I was extracting a big .bz2 file and playing an .ogg
file, and the other freeze was during playing an OpenGL Game (with latest nVidia
drivers).

Reproducible: Didn't try

It sounds like you're having a potential hardware problem, most likely cooling.

Please check your cooling and RAM.

I found it out.

When compilling in LOCAL APIC into the Kernel, the System gets very unstable, freezes like I described. Must be due to my chipset which is a SiS 735 on a Elitwgroup K7S5A Mainboard.

Now, without this APIC stuff everything runs normal. No freezes.
