Ok, got a new graphiccard (ati radeon sapphire 9500) and, what a surprise, i put it into my box. when starting again linux doesnt come up, and the boot cd leaves my screen blank after the option screen. before that i had an ati radeon 8500 and all worked fine. i now have windows installed :( but i REALLY need the data stored on my linux partition. If nobody knows how to get it work again a tool for windows which can read AND copy data from reiserfs to fat or ntfs would be very helpfull. THX Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: how shall i do that without linux? :)
where does gentoo stops at boot ?
No wy to find out but i think when loading the specific graphicdrivers. i get the boot screen where u can specify aditional options (other keymaps etc) and after that the screen stays black.
???
If your booting the livecd, type "nofb" at prompt
Tried the GentooGames AA CD yesterday and with my Sapphire 9500 pro on a A7N8X, X fails to load. -lspci- 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AGP (rev a2) 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R300 NE [Radeon 9700] 03:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R300 [Radeon 9700] (Secondary) [gentoo 2.4.20 reports Radeon 9500, this is from 2..4.21] -XFree86.0.log- (WW) fglrx : No matching dev section for instance (PCI 3:0:1) found (EE) fglrx(0)[agp] unable to aquire AGP, error "xf86_ENODEV" (EE) fglrx(0) cannot init AGP I cannot in my mdk9.1 find any fglrx driver but my XFree86.0.log shows: (WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:3:0:1) found Hope this is helpful! Is there any recommended way to upload logs if the CD fails?? /Stefan
Have you tried the ati drivers in portage? I know that they install their own AGP module, so take all agp stuff out of the kernel first if you try it.
Dunno why, but from one moment to the next it worked o.O Okay, i guess this is because i used gentoo 1.4 now and not as the last time 1.3 . For me it is fixed.
