Emerge -a kdm results in big blockage: kdebase is blocking a bunch of other KDE packages, which in turn are blocking kdebase. Currently, emerge -aDNvu world, revdep-rebuild and depclean are all up-to-date. The existing KDE stuff was pulled in by the single 'world' file entry kde-base/kdegames. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Build from scratch, using my world file 2.Emerge kdm 3. Actual Results: blockage Expected Results: emergence Attaching world file, emerge info, sample output

You're mixing split & monolithic ebuilds. Find out what tries to install the monolithic ebuild (kde-base/kdebase:kde-4), using emerge --tree, and install the split equivalent. Also see http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kde-split-ebuilds.xml
