can we get a better web frontend for doing diffs on files ? what we're using now is pretty basic ... it does colorization based on the line type (add/remove/changed). there are ones out there that can highlight changes within lines themselves. so if the change was: - moo(cow); + moo(bows); our current differ would show these both as yellow whereas better differs would highlight the two important facts: the "c" changed to a "b" and an "s" was added.
darkside: you were playing with ViewVC, can you please look at this?
vapier, do you have an example link? This was opened moons ago so I wonder if the situation changed since then.
look at any wikipedia diff http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Linux_kernel&action=historysubmit&diff=399739823&oldid=399535196
I meant an example on sources.g.o
how about any commit which changes KEYWORDS ? http://sources.gentoo.org/sys-fs/dosfstools/dosfstools-3.0.2.ebuild?r1=1.5&r2=1.6
Changed hr_intraline, but I'm not convinced this is better. Looks fugly to me. Thoughts anyone? Log: viewvc.conf: Enable experimental hr_intraline support for inline diffs, bug 207857
it could be better, but i think the output is better at conveying information than the old output might be worth while fishing for opinions on gentoo-dev
I've taken a informal poll, with a small sample set, on IRC and no one said that it was worse, but a few said that it could be better to which I agree. For that, I'll close this bug and we will keep it like this.
