python-2.4.3-r4 ebuild tries to establish a symlink to /usr/share/man/man1/python.1.gz; however, the actual extension of the file is .bz2, which not only makes the symlink not to be established, but also will raise the appearance of orphan files (since it thinks it installed python.1.gz it won't try to uninstall python.1.bz2): linux ~ # portageq owners / /usr/share/man/man1/python.1.bz2 None of the installed packages claim the file(s). dev-lang/python-2.4.3-r4 doesn't exist in the tree. The symlinks are handled by alternatives.eclass because they can't be owned by anything due to python slotting and work just fine with actually existing ebuild versions.
