Description Joe Gasiorek 2003-05-10 16:47:21 UTC
After logging in through gdm the gnome splash screen comes up and starts
displaying icons. Then an error box comes up saying:
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The Settings Daemon restarted too many times GNOME will still try to restart
the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

This is the same info as in bug #13309 and since the opener of the bug never
actually said how it was fixed, I was left very confused. If anyone could
knows how that bug was fixed or how I could go about fixing my situation please
post. Thanks!

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into a gnome session through gdm
2. watch gnome splash screen
3. recieve error message

Actual Results:
I recieve the error message as described in bug #13309

Expected Results:
started the gnome-setings-dameon

brand new install.

sorry...for not mentioning this...it hangs even if you close the error message.

Wrong category, reassigning to bug-wranglers.

what versions of gconf and gnome-session have you got?

is there anything in ~/.gnomerc-errors that is related?
Comment 4 Joe Gasiorek 2003-06-18 15:22:56 UTC
Re-installed and now I have no problems. Something must have clashed at that time in gnome.
