x11-apps/xinit-1.0.5-r1 installs /etc/init.d/xdm file which requires /usr/bin/xdm . I believe xinit should require. I believe xinit should require -----------------^^^^^^^ x11-apps/xdm package.
No, it really shouldn't. It doesn't require xdm, it works with tons of login managers out there, including but not limited to gdm, kdm, entrance, slim...)
See /etc/conf.d/xdm - DISPLAYMANAGER
# /etc/init.d/xdm start * Setting up xdm ... start-stop-daemon: stat /usr/bin/xdm: No such file or directory (No such file or directory) * ERROR: could not start the Display Manager #
Yeah, maybe if you could configure DISPLAYMANAGER properly as noted above. And if you have none, then remove it from runlevels.
How about something like this? --- /etc/init.d/xdm.ori 2008-01-22 22:10:06.000000000 +0100 +++ /etc/init.d/xdm 2008-01-22 22:25:32.000000000 +0100 @@ -94,8 +94,13 @@ esac if ! Sigh; how about that you stop recycling this bug and file a new one...
Bit tweaked patch added to xinit. Note patch was added only for baselayout-2 version :]
