kudzu installs its init script to /etc/rc.d/init.d/kudzu should this not be /etc/init.d/ ?
There are also two missing files: /sbin/initlog and /etc/init.d/functions. I copied these from a Mandrake partition and linked /etc/rc.d/init.d/kudzu to /etc/init.d/kudzu. After this it appears to work: it detected a few things and said it configured them, but I don't know how it configured them.
Is this still a problem?
yes, it is still a problem, so its been worked on for over a year and still nothing?
Yes... I have spent every waking moment in the past year working on this absolute showstopper for Gentoo. Sometimes I really wonder about some people.... *grin* Now, to be honest, kudzu was originally maintained by base-system, which is a group of guys that tend to get all kinds of things lumped into their lap. When I started the livecd herd right before 2004.2, I asked to take maintainership of this application for the LiveCD. That being said, this is entirely an enhancement request, which means it falls at the "back of the line" when compared to things like, oh, I don't know, a machine not booting with the LiveCD, or data corruption issues. I tend to work enhancement requests as I find time, but I don't put much priority on them simply due to the fact thet they are enhancements. That being said, you are more than welcome to post a patch to the current ebuild and I will gladly apply it after giving it a once over and commit it to CVS. This is how a community project works, the community helps out. Otherwise, please understand that the livecd herd is just me, and like most Gentoo developers, I have a full-time job, a family, and a life outside Gentoo, so don't be so hurt if this bug doesn't demand my immediate attention.
Created attachment 41995 [details, diff] no-init-script The init script is interactive so not appropriate for our runlevels. If anything we should just stop it from being installed.

Note to self: New init scripts in bug #61978
Applied... yeah, yeah... it took me *way* too long... I'm slack... so sue me... ;p I'm also applying this to kudzu-knoppix.
