k3b-1.0.4 produces the error when trying to access dvdrom connected by USB. dvdrom works perfectly before starting k3b and doesn't work after. According dmesg k3b just sends some strange commands to it and it shuts down the device (/dev/sr0) Previous version k3b-0.12.17 has no such problem. Works perfectly. *** Bug 206715 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Hmm. This bug is quite old. Current stable is k3b-1.0.5-r3 and kernel you tested with, 2.6.23-gentoo-r3 is also old. Burning backends have also upgraded since, cdrtools, cdrkit, dvd+rw-tools, etc. Can you give us an update from up to date system? Is this still an problem?
please test with updated k3b and kernel and reopen if you still have the problem.
