Description Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-18 16:23:56 UTC
I run --depclean and after a while I started getting:

--- !empty   dir /usr/share/texmf
--- !empty   dir /usr/share
--- !empty   dir /usr
--- !empty   dir /etc/texmf/updmap.d
--- !empty   dir /etc/texmf
--- !empty   dir /etc
/var/tmp/binpkgs/dev-texlive/texlive-science-2007/temp/environment: line 359: /usr/sbin/texmf-update: No such file or directory
>>> Unmerging app-misc/jbidwatcher-1.0.2-r1...

--- !empty   dir /etc/texmf
--- !empty   dir /etc
/var/tmp/binpkgs/dev-texlive/texlive-latex-2007/temp/environment: line 362: /usr/sbin/texmf-update: No such file or directory
>>> Unmerging dev-java/xmldb-20011111-r1...

I guess the eclass is missing a dependency that screws up the depclean path. CCing dev-portage just to be sure.

this is normal I'd say, texmf-update is ran from every texlive ebuild to make sure the ls-R files & friends are consistant with the texmf tree and its installed with texlive-core. So if you unmerge texlive-core first, you have this.

Perhaps it'd be worth checking for texmf-update presence before trying to run it (see texlive-module.eclass), but I'm afraid nothing better can be done. What do you think ?

yeah should at least check for it, if it's expected to be missing

no, it shouldn't be missing
that's just because depclean doesn't choose a right order; it unmerges -core before the other ones even if they are still depending on it.
Checking for it will just hide that message anyway; I think I should add a check for it and an else in the eclass that will warn if it hasn't been ran, because if you've not run it after merging/unmerging a tex package you'll probably face problems using it.

That's bug 201045.

Thanks for the info Zac

So I've added a warning to texlive-module eclass and I think we're done there. The depclean deps. issue will be handled in the other bug.
