Hi, i recently setup a rsync mirror for the gentoo portage tree, it can be reached via rsync://intern.w3-hosting.com/gentoo-portage. Id like to support the gentoo project in making my mirror avaliable to the round robin system. The rsyncd is running from a box that hosts our mail & ticket system. i did set the cron to run every hour at 00 and 30 as stated in the howto. -snip- Started update at Thu May 8 13:30:00 CEST 2003 End: Thu May 8 13:30:09 CEST 2003 Started update at Thu May 8 14:00:00 CEST 2003 End: Thu May 8 14:00:14 CEST 2003 Started update at Thu May 8 14:30:00 CEST 2003 End: Thu May 8 14:30:22 CEST 2003 -snip- Please let me know if my resource can be of use for you. I am still syncing every 30 mins to another .de rsync server, im wondering if this will offend the admin sooner or later as its basicly a clear violation of the rsync netiquette .. Is anyone checking this ?
Sorry for the delay, we've been working on some DNS issues. I've added 213.131.230.230 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine and then add it to the rotation. Also, I'd like to verify a few details. Is the server running ntp? What is the upstream connection and max user limit? Also, the CPU and RAM? Thanks.
>Is the server running ntp? yes, it sync with our ntpd every 30 mins >What is the upstream connection and max user limit? the upstream is Multihomed, Level3. You can checkout all Level3 connection from the ripedb, they recently aquired AS1 The box itself is connected via 100mbit >Also, the CPU and RAM? Intel Celeron 700 / 512 MB RAM I will have to see about the userlimit when people start to actually use the service. it all depends on the bandwidth that will be used. At the moment i allow 20 max connections. i might raise / lower that.. we will see. regards alex
213.131.230.230 is now rsync12.de.gentoo.org. As soon as DNS catches up, you should start seeing some traffic. I've subscribed <abien@w3-hosting.com> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
