The Gentoo Printing How-To seems to be oriented mostly towards USB printers; when configuring a parallel printer
the instructions should describe how the kernel needs both parallel port support configured (which the documentation
does describe) and also enabling "Character-Devices-->Parallel Printer Support" (which the documentation does NOT
describe).  Without the latter, it is very frustrating trying to determine why /dev/lp0 is not being created and how to
get it created.
