hmm, strange. I just (re)emerged iscan-2.10.0 on x86 and amd64. Both compiled fine with glibc-2.7-r1 and gcc-4.2.2. So I can't reproduce your error. It seems, that there's something broken on your system.

I would try to re-emerge:

1. gcc
2. glibc
3. sane-backends

and yes, "emerge symlinks" and then "symlinks -dr /usr" is also a good idea. Also gcc-config with --force.

and then try again.
