I haven't tried this recently on a 32-bit system, but on the x86-64 it dies, and the error message looks like something to do with 64-bit architectures: /libgcc_s.so.1 && ln -s 32/libgcc_s.so.1 libgcc_s_32.so /usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/../lib/libc.so when searching for -lc /usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/../lib/libc.a when searching for -lc /usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: i386:x86-64 architecture of input file `/usr/lib/../lib/crti.o' is incompatible with i386 output /usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: i386:x86-64 architecture of input file `/usr/lib/../lib/crtn.o' is incompatible with i386 output collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[3]: *** [32/libgcc_s_32.so] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/gpc-20051104/work/build/gcc' make[2]: *** [stmp-multilib] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/gpc-20051104/work/build/gcc' make[1]: *** [stage1_build] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/gpc-20051104/work/build/gcc' make: *** [bootstrap] Error 2 * * ERROR: dev-lang/gpc-20051104 failed. * Call stack: * ebuild.sh, line 46: Called src_compile * environment, line 2662: Called die * The specific snippet of code: * emake -j1 LIBPATH="${LIBPATH}" bootstrap || diefunc "$FUNCNAME" "$LINENO" "$?" bumb.. fails for me too, with gentoo 2007.1 amd64...
I've tried to check if only forcing gcc-3 to be used to compile the thing would fix this, but it seems the problem really is with multilib. I'll have to port it to use gnatbuild or toolchain.eclass or may be I can salvage parts of these eclasses to be used separately, please standby. Also, I really should update this package, there were few more beta releases since this one. Sorry about this one lagging behind, I switched to using Ada quite a while ago :), but I'll try to correct this one soon as well. George
fails here as well on amd64 with 4.3.2 and profile default/linux/amd64/2008.0
Sorry for long silence, this one was not assigned to me directly and I did not really care about gpc personally (having switched to Ada for all the relevant stuff for a few years already :)). Just decided to tighten a few bugs recently, so I'll try to see what I can do. (In reply to comment #7) > fails here as well on amd64 with 4.3.2 and profile default/linux/amd64/2008.0 Well, strictly speaking it is not even supposed to be buildable against 4.3.2. At least the latest version "released" (2007something) only provides 4.1.x diffs. However the build process forces a particular gcc (set by GCCVER to 3.4 series in the only ebuild that's left) anyway, meaning you'll have to keep that gcc version around (otherwise we would get collisions). Reassigning the bug. I do get this same problem on amd64 here as well, so hopefully, I'll fix it some time soon.
Created attachment 174210 [details] See comment. Although I can not emerge this package I am able to compile it from source code. See http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-716669-highlight-gpc.html For details.

Hope it works ;) (compiled in my ~amd64 chroot) Resolving bug because it works for now ;) Please file new bugs if there are new issues, thanks.
