Emerge fails because it cannot locate some necessary header files and dynamic libraries. I fixed it by manually adding -I/usr/kde/3.5/include to CFLAGS and -L/usr/kde/3.5/lib to LDFLAGS in /etc/make.conf. I know that this is an improper fix. This should work with compiz-0.7.8. If you're using -kdeprefix with kde-4.1.2 and have issues with compizconfig-backend-kconfig, move on to bug 243048 .
