With the current stable apache version it is no longer possible for me to play with DAV. I upgraded apache2, but did not change any apache2 config file. This is what I did to tst DAV: n22 ~ # mount /mnt/ramdisk n22 ~ # mkdir /mnt/ramdisk/dav /mnt/ramdisk/dav/conf /mnt/ramdisk/dav/fs /mnt/ramdisk/dav/lib n22 ~ # htpasswd2 -cmb /mnt/ramdisk/dav/conf/davpasswd toralf toralf 1>/dev/null 2>&1 n22 ~ # chown -R apache:apache /mnt/ramdisk/dav n22 ~ # chmod g+s /mnt/ramdisk/dav && chmod g+s /mnt/ramdisk/dav/* n22 ~ # ls -l / > /mnt/ramdisk/dav/fs/ls-l.txt n22 ~ # chown apache:apache /mnt/ramdisk/dav/fs/ls-l.txt n22 ~ # cadaver http://n22/davfs@n22/ Could not access /davfs@n22/ (not WebDAV-enabled?): 405 Method Not Allowed Connection to `n22' closed. dav:!> quit BTW an "emerge --info" should include a newline before the variable APACHE2_MODULES, LINUGUAS and others, isn't it ? Reproducible: Always n22 ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.1.3.19 (default-linux/x86/2007.0, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.6.1-r0, 2.6.23-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.23-gentoo-r5 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1700MHz Timestamp of tree: Fri, 11 Jan 2008 09:46:01 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p17-r1 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.33-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4-r6 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r6 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.10-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r1 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.24 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.23-r3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache collision-protect distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/download/gentoo-mirror/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://mirror.muntinternet.net/pub/gentoo/" LINGUAS="de en" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --filter=H_**/files/digest-*" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi alsa apache2 arts asf berkdb bitmap-fonts bluetooth bzip2 cairo cddb clamav cli cracklib crypt css cups dri dvd dvdr dvdread dynamicplugin encode exif fam fastbuild fortran gdbm gif gpm gtk i8x0 iconv ipv6 isdnlog jai java javascript jimi jpeg kde logrotate mad madwifi mbox midi mikmod mmap mmx mmxext mp3 mp4 mpeg mudflap mysql ncurses nls nntp no-seamonkey nptl nptlonly nsplugin opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl png pppd python readline real reflection session spl sse sse2 ssl subversion svg tcpd tiff tk truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode userlocales wifi win32codecs wmf workbench x264 x86 xcomposite xml xorg xpm zlib" ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0 intel8x0m" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic auth_digest authn_anon authn_dbd authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock dbd deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers ident imagemap include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation proxy proxy_ajp proxy_balancer proxy_connect proxy_http rewrite setenvif so speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse joystick evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="de en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="vga radeon" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
(In reply to comment #0) > BTW an "emerge --info" should include a newline before the variable > APACHE2_MODULES, LINUGUAS and others, isn't it ? No, it really shouldn't. Is already long enough as it is. :) You upgraded from what version? Also some configuration info would be useful...
(In reply to comment #1) > No, it really shouldn't. Is already long enough as it is. :) yep, that's right >You upgraded from > what version? Also some configuration info would be useful... I upgraded from www-servers/apache-2.2.6-r5 but I'm not sure whether I tested DAV with that version. OTOH www-apps/websvn-2.0 works fine. My configs: n22 /etc/apache2/modules.d # grep ^APACHE2_OPTS /etc/conf.d/apache2 APACHE2_OPTS="-D DEFAULT_VHOST -D INFO -D LANGUAGE -D MANUAL -D SSL -D SSL_DEFAULT_VHOST -D SUEXEC -D DOC -D PHP5 -D DAV -D DAV_FS -D SVN -D SVN_AUTHZ" I'll attach 2 more configs with next comments.
Created attachment 140714 [details] dav config
Created attachment 140716 [details] svn config
/etc/conf.g/apache2 would be nice too
Created attachment 140718 [details] apache2 cfg
BTW I found this in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf : <IfDefine INFO> LoadModule status_module modules/mod_status.so </IfDefine> shouldn't it be <IfDefine STATUS> with respect to /etc/apache2/modules.d/00_mod_status.conf ?
Argh, found the answer within the forum : http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-644336-highlight-.html After specifying "-D AUTH_DIGEST" WebDAV works. BTW I didn't defined this before I'm pretty sure. Should I close this report ?

Yes, we made this optional because it needs quite some entropy on startup, which may not be available, especially in virtual hosting environments (but there is alway the USE=urandom workaround of course, but isn't as secure)
Ok, it was my fault, should read the docs more carefully next time ... BTW what's about comment #7 ?
(In reply to comment #10) > BTW what's about comment #7 ? fixed, thanks
